| As we have cruised, we have asked countless sailors:- “Do you have a grab bag?” “What do you put in it?” “Where do you stow it?” “Do you know what’s in your liferaft?” “Have you ever deployed it or serviced it yourself?” “Do you have supplemental supplies / rations for it?” “Do you keep jerry cans of water, just for abandon ship situations?” These are conversational thought provokers, posed to yachtsmen and yachtswomen in countless cockpits and they have resulted in many subsequent emails from cruising couples and individuals who wrote in their postscripts; “finally got around to making up a grab bag because of you” or just plain “thanks!”. Here's another thought provoker:- Imagine sitting in your liferaft, you are cold and soaking wet and surrounded by close friends or family members. You have all just abandoned ship and now their shocked faces are looking at you. Would you know what to say? Would you know what to do? What would step by step instructions and excellent sea survival equipment be worth to you in such a situation? What would you be prepared to pay for such things? Out there, what would you not pay to have it?! Our survival packs cost less than some lifejackets!! Read our grab bags page to see how we prepare for the worst on our boats. Then check out the Sea Survival and Amphibious Survival Packs. If this website saves one life or prevents one catastrophe at sea, then our efforts have been worthwhile. |
