| How realistic is it for a skipper and crew of a private yacht, cruising independently of anyone, to have their offshore distress signal received and subsequently acted upon? How successful would a search be? How long would such a search be sustained? Ever wondered? Click on the EPIRB test results link below and then read the rest of this information page. EPIRB TEST RESULTS As a result of need and demand amongst cruising sailors and delivery crews, sailingunlimited has produced Sea, Land and Amphibious Survival Packs. These survival packs were originally assembled at our premises on the south coast of the UK. Production has since been outsourced to BCB International Ltd and our packs are now manufactured at their headquarters in Cardiff. BCB International Ltd have been approved to the Internationally Recognised Quality Assured Standards ISO 9001:2000 and like to develop new unique products. They work closely with Special Forces Personnel throughout the world as well as explorers who venture to the extremes. Our survival packs are essential for the modern day yachtsman and yachtswoman and can be purchased here through this website. For more information, to view or to buy our survival packs please follow the links. You also might like to consider these familiar facts:- Races with large financial sponsorship and access to the best trained and equipped rescue organisations in the world have struggled to assist stricken vessels. This is not a criticism, rather an illustration of reality. Even those who are very well prepared and are in constant communications with land can find it very difficult to be rescued. With the most advanced technology on the planet, the RAAF had a very hard time finding Tony Bullimore in the 1996 Vendee Globe race. Repeated attempts to find him proved fruitless and they knew where to look! Hopes had begun to fade just before he was rescued on the 9th Jan 1997. The combined courage and skill of the RAAF and RAN made this possible. Even when Raphael Dinelli was spotted by the crew of an RAAF Nimrod, the conditions made it extremely difficult for them to assist him. Two liferafts had to be dropped to him. Again not a criticism, just reality. The grit and determination of Pete Goss, guided by the Australian military, brought Raphael out of there. The Robertson family spent 38 days in their liferaft and dinghy. Steve Callahan's ordeal was 76 days. Countless more modern accounts of such survivals exist. There is no reason to believe that any of us could not find ourselves in similar situations at any time in the future; regardless of how much we might like to think that we won't. Make sure that you are prepared for every eventuality and purchase one of our survival packs!! |
